Magic Keys and the Office Clipboard

When you use the Magic Keys (Ctrl+Ins+Ins or Ctrl+C+C) to translate words from Microsoft Office 2000/XP applications (Word, Outlook, etc.), the Clipboard toolbar may appear. Unfortunately, this toolbar does not always pop-up in the same location in Office 2000/XP applications, which may be inconvenient. However, you can change the behaviour of the Clipboard. 

Microsoft Office 2000

ABBYY Lingvo includes a utility that changes the behaviour of the Clipboard in Microsoft Office 2000 applications. 

This utility prevent the Clipboard from automatically popping up on your screen but retains all of the Clipboard functionality. You can always restore the original behaviour later.

To switch off the Clipboard:

1. Open the folder where you installed ABBYY Lingvo;
2. In the Support folder, double-click the file named AutoPopupClipboardToolbarOff.reg;
3. Click Yes when the program prompts you.

To switch on the Clipboard:

1. Open the folder where you installed ABBYY Lingvo;
2. In the Support folder, double-click the file named AutoPopupClipboardToolbarOn.reg;
3. Click Yes when the program prompts you.

Microsoft Office XP

In Microsoft Office XP, you can change the behaviour of the Clipboard by assigning a different set of keys to the Copy command. If you assign Ctrl+Ins+Ins instead of Ctrl+Ins, no text will be copied to the Clipboard when you press Ctrl+Ins. 

To assign the Ctrl+Ins+Ins combination to the Copy command:

1. Select Tools>Customize... and click Keyboard...;
2. In the Customize Keyboard dialog box that opens, select Edit in the Categories window and EditCopy in the Commands window;
3. In the Current keys field, select Ctrl+Insand then in the Press new shortcut key field enter Ctrl+Insert, Insert by pressing the corresponding buttons on the keyboard;
4. Click the Assign button.
