This method allows you to translate words, phrases, and text fragments.
To translate a word or phrase:
- Type in the word, phrase or text fragment you wish to translate.
- Do one of the following:
- Press Enter or click on the command bar
- Select the Translate command on the Translate menu
Note: If the selected word or phrase is not found in the headwords of entries, the program will automatically start a full-text search in all the enabled dictionaries.
To get a word-by-word translation of a text fragment:
- Type in the text fragment you wish to translate.
Important! The text fragment to be translated must not be longer than 32 words.
- Select the Translate Text in Search Field command on the Translate menu or on the shortcut menu of the word list. Alternatively, you can press Ctrl+Enter on your keyboard.
You can quickly look up a word or phrase in ABBYY Lingvo.
- In the word list, select the word or phrase you wish to look up.
- Do one of the following:
- Double-click the selected word or phrase
- Select the Open Card command on the Translate menu
- Press Shift+Enter on your keyboard
Note: If Display selected term in search field when browsing is selected (Tools>Options…>General), the word or phrase which is selected in the word list will be automatically displayed in the search field.
- Double-click the word you wish to translate
- Select the word or phrase and select the Translate command on the shortcut menu of the card window
- Select the word or phrase and select the Send to Search Field command on the shortcut menu of the card window, then press Enter
Note: If the selected word or phrase is not found in the headwords of entries, the program will automatically start a full-text search in all the enabled dictionaries.
