Transfer holdings or roll over an account in the
Portfolio Manager
If you roll
over a retirement account or change brokerages, you need to update
your Portfolio Manager account information. The best way to
transfer your holdings to a new account in Money is to set up the
new account for online updates. That way, your brokerage can
provide information on your holdings, and you won't have to type it
in.
- Go to the Portfolio Manager.
- In the left pane under Common tasks, click
Work with accounts, and then click Add an
account.
- Follow the instructions on the screen.
If your brokerage doesn't offer
online updates, you can transfer your information manually, and
then update it by typing in your transactions.
- Go to the Portfolio Manager.
- In the left pane under Common tasks, click
Work with accounts, and then click Add an
account.
- On the Choose an account type page, select
Investment.
- On the Select a bank or brokerage page, click
My bank or brokerage isn't listed.
- Follow the instructions on the screen. Do not add any
investments to the account.
- Go to the Portfolio Manager.
- Right-click your original account, click Transfer an
Account, and then follow the instructions on the
screen.
Tip
To stop seeing the original accounts in your account list, mark
them as closed. Then, in the left pane under Common
tasks, click Sort account list by, and
then clear the check mark next to Hide closed
accounts, if present.
Notes
- If your brokerage isn't listed on the Select a bank or
brokerage page, then you can't update the new account
online. Click Transfer holdings to a new account that you
update manually, above, and then follow steps 4-7 of those
instructions instead.
- If you updated your original accounts by typing in
transactions, close out your positions
(The amount of your investment, either by owning stock
(a long position) or by owing stock (a short position). Also, the
amount open.) in those accounts. To do so, in the Portfolio
Manager, click the investment name. In the left pane, click
Work with investments, and then click
Update your shares. Enter a new quantity of
0 to reflect that all the shares have been moved
to your new account.
- If you updated your original accounts online, your next online
update for those accounts will reflect the transfer of your
shares.
