Most migration tasks occur in the planning steps that are listed in Plan for migration from Office 2000 to the 2007 Office release. You might want to perform one or more of the following tasks during your upgrade process, depending on your environment.

After you use the Office Migration Planning Manager (OMPM) to assess the files in your environment for migration issues, you can use the Office File Converter (OFC) and Version Extraction Tool (VET) to convert files. OFC and VET are included in OMPM. OFC converts files in bulk and VET extracts file versions of Office Word files and saves them to a specified directory. You can use Group Policy to set the default file save formats if people in your organization need to save files in the file formats that are used by previous versions of the Microsoft Office system. See Using Group Policy to set default file save options.

If your organization uses previous versions of the Office system, you can download the Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack. The Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack enables previous versions of the Office system to view and save files in the new file formats in the 2007 Office system.
