Using the List pane

The List pane can be used to quickly create and edit playlists or to create a temporary playlist. You can also use the List pane to create a list of items to burn to a CD or to synchronize to a portable device. The type of list that you create is specified by clicking <List Name> List above the List pane, and then selecting the list type from a menu. Now Playing List is displayed by default.

You can add items to all of the lists and switch between them at any time. For example, while you are playing the items in the Now Playing list, you can switch to the Burn list, and then click the Start Burn button Start Burn button below the List pane to burn the items in the Burn list to a CD.

When you click <List Name> List above the List pane, a menu is displayed that contains additional commands that allow you to manage your list. The following table explains the function of each command on the <List Name> List menus.

  • Click <List Name> List, and then click Now Playing List to display a list of items to play.

    If items were previously added to a list, they are retained and displayed in the list when you click the menu command for the list type.

    • When you insert an audio CD into your CD drive, the tracks on the CD are displayed in the Now Playing list.
  • Click <List Name> List, and then click Burn List to display a list of items to burn to a CD.
  • Click <List Name> List, and then click Sync List to display a list of items to synchronize to a portable device.
Clear List Remove all items from the list.
Repeat Play the items in the Now Playing list repeatedly.
Play Shuffled Play the items in the Now Playing list in a random order.
Shuffle List Now Shuffle the items in the list.
Sort Sort the items in the list by name, artist, album, rating, or file name.
Edit using Playlist Editor Add items from your library to the list, remove items from the list, or change the order of items in the list by using the Edit Playlist dialog box.

  • When you insert an audio CD into your CD drive, the tracks on the CD are displayed in the Now Playing list. This type of Now Playing list cannot be edited.
New List When any list is displayed:

Click New List, click Playlist, and then add items to the List pane to create a new playlist. You can then burn the items in the new playlist to a CD, synchronize the items in the new playlist to a portable device, or save the list as a new playlist to your library.

Click New List, click Auto Playlist, and then create a new auto playlist by using the New Auto Playlist dialog box. The new auto playlist will be added to the Auto Playlists category in your library.

Edit Playlist When any list is displayed:

Point to Edit Playlist, and then click a playlist name (if one is displayed). The items in the playlist are displayed in the List pane.

  • You can then edit the items in the playlist by clicking Edit using Playlist Editor (if desired) before burning the items in the new playlist or existing playlist to a CD, synchronizing the items to a portable device, or saving the list as a new playlist to your library.

  • If all of your playlists are not displayed when you point to Edit Playlist (that is, there is not enough room in the menu to display all of the playlists in your library), or if no playlists are displayed (that is, there are no playlists in your library), click Additional Playlists to open the Add to Playlist dialog box. You can use the dialog box to create a new playlist to add to the List pane, or select a playlist from your library to display in the List pane.
Save Playlist/Save Playlist As Click Save Playlist to save a playlist that you changed or click Save Playlist As to save a new playlist that you created to your library.
