Create a brush or color resource
There are many ways to create a resource in Microsoft® Expression Blend™. This topic only covers creating brush and color resources. For more information about creating additional resource types, see Resources overview. You can also see all the resources that are used within your project in the Resources panel. This panel lists all local resources, external resources, linked-to resources, and resource dictionaries that are associated with the current project. |
To create a brush resource
- Under Brushes in the Properties panel, click the Solid color brush , Gradient brush , or Tile brush tab to begin setting properties for your brush. When you are ready to save the brush, click the Convert brush to resource button.
- In the Create Brush Resource dialog box, enter a name (key) for your new resource, select where you want the resource to be defined (such as at the application-level, document-level, object-level, or as a part of a resource dictionary), and then click OK. You can access the brush resources that you've created in the Resources panel, or in the Local Brush Resources list within the Brush resources tab under Brushes in the Properties panel.
To create a color resource
- Under Brushes in the Properties
panel, click the Solid color brush
or
Gradient brush
tab,
select a color in the color editor or by using one of the
eyedroppers, and then click the Convert color to resource
button.
This will create a color resource based on the current color that you have selected. - In the Create Color Resource dialog box, enter a name (key) for your new resource, select where you want the resource to be defined (such as at the application-level, document-level, object-level, or as a part of a resource dictionary), and then click OK. You can access the color resources that you've created in the Resources panel or on the Color resources tab under Brushes in the Properties panel.
If you are using either the Color eyedropper or Gradient eyedropper within the color editor, you can click the ESC key to cancel out of the eyedropper. These eyedroppers also enable you to pick a color from anywhere within the application window. |
