ABBYY FineReader 8.0 integrates with Microsoft Word and Windows Explorer, allowing you to run OCR from within these applications.

Recognizing documents from within Micorsoft Word

When you install ABBYY FineReader 8.0, the setup program adds an ABBYY FineReader button () to the Microsoft Word toolbar. Clicking this button will get and recognize an image.

To recognize a document:

  1. Click on the Microsoft Word toolbar.
  2. In the ABBYY FineReader 8.0 dialog that opens:
  1. Click Scan&Read.

Tip. Click Options... to select additional options. In the Options dialog that opens, you can select image opening, scanning, recognition, and saving parameters.

When I launch Microsoft Word I see no ABBYY FineReader button on the toolbar

Opening image and PDF files from Windows Explorer

ABBYY FineReader 8.0 adds an Open with ABBYY FineReader item to the File menu and to the local menu in Windows Explorer. This command is only available if you have selected at least one file supported by ABBYY FineReader.

To open a file:

  1. In Windows Explorer, right-click the file you wish to open.

  2. In the local menu, select the Open with ABBYY FineReader command.

ABBYY FineReader 8.0 will be launched and the selected image will be added to a new batch. If ABBYY FineReader 8.0 is already running, the selected image will be added to the current batch.

Tip. To add images to the last batch with which you worked, select Open last batch at startup on the General tab in the Options dialog. 500 Internal Server Error
