Listening to the Pronunciation of Words

In ABBYY Lingvo you can hear the pronunciations of words in the English-Russian dictionary LingvoUniversal En-Ru and in the German-Russian dictionary Universal De-Ru.

To install the sound files

The sound files may be installed either together with the program or later.

To install the sound files:

1. Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon in Start>Control Panel.
2. In the Add/Remove Programs dialog box that opens, select ABBYY Lingvo and then click Change.
3. In the dialog box that opens, select the Change box and click Next.
4. In the Custom Setup dialog box that opens, either select Sound or one of the sub-items:

• sound for LingvoUniversal (En-Ru);

• sound for Universal (De-Ru).

Playing pronunciations

To hear a word pronounced:

1. Open the card of the word you wish to hear in LingvoUniversal (En-Ru) or Universal (De-Ru).
2. Click (Sound).

Important!

You need a sound card and headphones or loudspeakers to be able to listen to pronunciations.

 

Note:

ABBYY Lingvo uses the Vorbis compression format to compress the sound files.
