Creating an editable dictionary

There are two ways of creating an editable user dictionary:

Method 1

  1. On the Dictionaries tab of the Languages and Dictionaries dialog box (Tools>Languages and Dictionaries…), click Create…
  2. In the New Dictionary dialog box that opens, type a name for your new dictionary, select its source and target languages, and provide additional information in the About the dictionary field if required. Click OK.

Method 2

  1. Click on the command bar or select the Create/Edit Card… command on the Tools menu. The Create/Edit Card dialog box will open.
  2. In the Dictionary drop-down list, select <Create…>.
  3. In the New Dictionary dialog box that opens, type a name for your new dictionary, select its source and target languages, and provide additional information in the About the dictionary field if required. Click OK.
  4. Now you can add entries to the newly created dictionary.

The icon of your newly created dictionary will appear on the Bookshelf.

Making changes to a dictionary

Creating a dictionary entry

  1. Select Create/Edit Card… on the Tools menu or click on the command bar;
  2. In the Create/Edit Card dialog box that opens, select the required dictionary from the Dictionary drop-down list or select <Create…> to create a new user dictionary;
  3. In the user dictionary window that opens, type the headword of the entry and then click  .
  4. In the Create Card dialog box that opens, type a translation in the Translation field and click Save.

Note: If you need to enter text in a language other than the target language, you must specify this language manually. Select the fragment written in a non-target language, right-click it and on the shortcut menu select:

Editing a dictionary entry

  1. Select Create/Edit Card… on the Tools menu or click on the command bar.
  2. In the Create/Edit Card dialog box that opens, select the required dictionary from the Dictionary drop-down list.
  3. In the word list of the user dictionary that opens, select the required headword and then click (Edit Card).
  4. In the Edit Card dialog box that opens, make the necessary changes and click Save.

Deleting a dictionary entry

  1. Select Create/Edit Card… on the Tools menu or click on the command bar.
  2. In the Create/Edit Card dialog box that opens, select the required dictionary from the Dictionary drop-down list.
  3. In the word list of the user dictionary that opens, select the required headword and then click (Delete Card).
