Viewing word forms

ABBYY Lingvo 9.0 can automatically generate all the word forms (i.e. the paradigm) for your query word.

To display all the word forms of a word:

  1. Type your query word in the Edit Line or select it from the Word List.
  1. Select Show Word Forms… on the Tools menu or click .

You will see a List of Forms window containing all the word forms, or the paradigm, of your query word.

When Lingvo creates a list of word forms for a word, it uses the morphology of the current source language. This is particularly important to remember when you are working with several languages, since different languages may contain words with identical spelling.
Try getting all the word forms of the word explorer, for example (type explorer in the Edit Line and either select Show Word Forms... from the Tools menu or click ). If your current source language is English you will see the word forms of the English noun explorer, if your current source language is French you will see the word forms of the French verb explorer, and if your current source language is German a message will appear saying that Lingvo cannot display the word forms of this word.

To change the current source language:

Note:

  1. If you cannot see some of the words in the List of Forms, use your mouse to enlarge the columns.
  2. If any word form in the list is marked with an asterisk (*), this means that this word form theoretically exists in the language but is never actually used.
