Deletion

Top  Previous  Next

The Bat! offers you two sets of delete options to choose from: Normal and Alternative. If you define different deletion methods for them, you can, simply with the stroke of a key, decide on-the-fly how a message will be deleted.

This can be set account-wide and for every folder separately.

Normal deletion (<Del>/toolbar button)

Move messages to the Trash folder

As it says, this option will move any message you delete to the account's folder Trash (or common trash folder when dealing with Common Folders). This provides easy access, and allows you to have independent folder and view settings for deleted messages.

Mark as deleted, do not use the Trash folder

The Bat! will only set a flag that a message is deleted but leave it in its current folder.

Move to the specified folder

You can define your own Trash (or, more to the point, Archive) folder within The Bat!'s folder tree.

Alternative deletion (<Shift>+<Del>/toolbar button)

There are two differences in comparing this method to Normal deletion: firstly, in additon to the button or key used with Normal deletion you have to press <Shift>; secondly, you can define this deletion method as the default to be used when purging this folder.

Use alternative deletion method for purging this folder

Check this to let The Bat! purge folders with this method. By using alternative deletion purging, a message age limit and the Move to the specified folder option (above), you can set up a completely automated archiving system whereby The Bat! will move old messages to your archive folder whenever you perform a purge on this folder.

Additional settings

Compress emptied folder automatically

Check this and The Bat! will remove all messages from the message base. Note: Without compressing folders The Bat!'s message will grow bigger because the actual data from deleted messages remain in the base until compressed.
