Bi-Directional communication allows a printer driver to "communicate" with the printer via a network. The driver can acquire information from the printer such as its configuration, current operational status, and the status of the paper trays.
Use the Status tab in the driver to view and obtain printer status information. When bi-directional communication is enabled, the Status tab is accessible from the Paper/Output tab.
If network communication is temporarily unavailable or is not configured properly for the printer, the network, or your workstation, the Status button does not appear on the Paper/Output tab and status information is not available.
