Word Forms


ABBYY Lingvo can display all the grammatical forms of a given word (e.g. go, going, gone, went, etc.).

You may wish to view the grammatical forms of a word if:

Note: Grammatical forms are not available for French reflexive verbs, such as se coucher, etc.

 

Viewing grammatical forms in the ABBYY Lingvo main window

To view the grammatical forms of a word in the main program window:

  1. Type the word in the search field.

    Note:  Be sure to select the source language that corresponds to the language of the word whose forms you wish to see. This is important because some words may be written similarly in different languages.

  2. Do one of the following:
    • Select the Show Word Forms… command on the Translate menu.
    • Click on the command bar.

Viewing the grammatical forms of a headword

To view all the grammatical forms of the headword of an entry:

 

Viewing the grammatical forms of any word in the body of an entry

To view all the grammatical forms of any word in the body of an open card:

  1. Right-click a word in the entry and select Show Word Forms… on the shortcut menu

    Note: You can also use this method to:

    • view the word forms of any individual word making up the headword of the entry,

    • view the forms of a selected fragment of a compound word.

Copying and printing grammatical forms

You can copy and print the tables with grammatical forms displayed in the Word Forms dialog box:
  1. Select the text you wish to copy or print off.
  2. Do one of the following:
    • To copy the selected text, select the Copy command on the shortcut menu of the Word Forms dialog box
    • To print the selected text, select the Print command on the shortcut menu of the Word Forms dialog box
Note: The language of the commands on the shortcut menu will be the same as the interface language of Internet Explorer.
