Split a transaction among categories
If you track
your spending in detail, you may want to split some purchases into
different categories. For example, if a department store charge
included clothes for yourself and a birthday present for a friend,
you could split the total into an amount for clothing and an amount
for gifts.
Note: To perform this advanced task, you must
be using the Advanced Account Register. To find out which register
you're using, look for the Essential Register or
Advanced Register label in the upper-right corner
of the account register.
- Click Banking, and then click Account
List.
- Click the name of an account.
- If you're using the
Essential Register, you must switch to the Advanced Register.
- In the account list,
click the account name.
- In the left pane under Other tasks, click
Change account settings.
- Under Register Detail, click switch to
the Advanced Account Register.
- Click Use Advanced Register.
- Enter a transaction or click an existing transaction.
- Click the Split button.
- For each amount you want to assign to a separate category,
choose a category, and then enter the amount for that category. If
you like, you may also add a subcategory
(A
subset of an income or expense category. For example, Gasoline and
Maintenance could be subcategories of Automobile expenses. )
and enter a description.
- After you enter the categories and amounts you need, click
Done.
- Click Enter.
Note
To change the amounts or categories in a transaction you've
already split among categories, double-click the transaction, click
the Split button, and then make your changes.
