Reallocate funds between budget categories

To cover unexpected budget shortfalls, you can reallocate funds between budget categories . For example, if you exceed the amount in the current month's Automobile category by $100.00, you can reallocate $100.00 from next month's Automobile category, or take $100.00 from this month's Dining Out category to cover it. By reallocating funds, your budget evens out over the course of the year.

Reallocating funds between categories doesn't permanently change your budget. To change one of your spending categories and have that change show up every month, you must edit your budget.

Note: To perform this task, you must be using the Advanced Budget. To determine which budget you're using, look for the Essential Budget, Advanced Budget, or Savings and Spending Budget label in the upper-right corner of the Budget summary page.

  1. Click Budget, and then click Budget Summary.
  2. Select the budget category with the spending limit you want to adjust, click Reallocate Funds, and then follow the instructions on the screen.
