Use the Payee Rules Manager to adjust payee
names
You can use the Payee Rules Manager to change the words that
Money automatically excludes from payee (A person or
business to whom you write a check or make some other kind of
payment.) names. (For example, you might want to exclude
common words, such as Check.) You can also use
this tool to match variations of a payee name to the name that you
prefer to use.
- Click Banking, click Account
Tools, and then click Categories &
Payees.
- In the left pane under View, click
Payees.
- In the left pane under Common tasks, click
Go to Payee Rules Manager.
- To change the words that Money excludes when matching payee
names, in the Excluded payee names list, select a
name. Click Add, Delete, or
Edit, and then follow the instructions.
-or-
To match variations of a payee name to the name you prefer to
use, in the Preferred payee name list, select a
name. Next to Payee name variation, click
Add, Delete, or
Edit, and then follow the instructions.
Notes
- You cannot rename payees that have automatic payments or
e-bills associated with them because Money needs to match the exact
name to make the payment.
- When Money matches payee names, it excludes the words that are
in the the Payee Rules Manager list, but still matches the words
that have not been excluded. For example, if you have a transaction
with the payee name of Woodgrove Bank Check #1234
and you chose to exclude the word Check when you
matched payee names, the new payee name would be Woodgrove
Bank #1234.
- In addition to excluding common words, you can also exclude
numbers and symbols so that Money shows only standardized payee
names.
