Use the Payee Rules Manager to adjust payee names

You can use the Payee Rules Manager to change the words that Money automatically excludes from payee names. (For example, you might want to exclude common words, such as Check.) You can also use this tool to match variations of a payee name to the name that you prefer to use.


  1. Click Banking, click Account Tools, and then click Categories & Payees.
  2. In the left pane under View, click Payees.
  3. In the left pane under Common tasks, click Go to Payee Rules Manager.
  4. To change the words that Money excludes when matching payee names, in the Excluded payee names list, select a name. Click Add, Delete, or Edit, and then follow the instructions.

    To match variations of a payee name to the name you prefer to use, in the Preferred payee name list, select a name. Next to Payee name variation, click Add, Delete, or Edit, and then follow the instructions.
