Internal Implementation

Internal Implementation

Top  Previous  Next

The Bat!'s own internal OpenPGP implementation conforms to RFC 1991 and offeres you the most basic features with IDEA as the encryption algorithm.

After choosing the internal implementation (see Installing PGP support):

1. Go to Tools->OpenPGP->OpenPGP preferences
2. Choose your settings:
· Always encrypt to default key - useful to encrypt to your own key, otherwise you won't be able to read sent messages
· Compress data before encryption
· Cache decryption passphrases/keys for - set the amount of time you want your private key sitting in memory for easier decryption
· Cache signing passphrases/keys for - set the amount of time you want your private key sitting in memory for easier signing

Beware: These two options can make you vulnerable. It is possible for a third party to extract or use your cached keys/passphrases!

· Comment block - add any text you like to your key, e.g. the OpenPGP version you use.
3. Click on Files
4. Enter the paths to your keyring and random seed files

Note: The Bat! usually creates these files automatically in the specified working directory.
