Storing and removing media information

You can prevent some file history and media information from being stored on your computer. You may also be able to remove some of the information that has already been stored. For more information, see the following table.

On the Privacy tab, clear the Save file and URL history in the Player check box. Empty the My Recent Documents folder on the computer. For more information, see To remove stored information from the list in the Open dialog box.
Media information about CDs copied to your library or played On your computer.

The media information is displayed in several places in the Player including Now Playing, Library, and in the Info Center View and Media Information panes.

On the Privacy tab, clear the Display media information from the Internet check box. Media information about CD tracks displayed in your library cannot be removed.

To remove media information about CD tracks that are not displayed in your library, on the Privacy tab, click Clear Caches.

Updated media information for music files stored in your library On your computer.

The media information is displayed in several places in the Player including Now Playing, Library, and in the Info Center View pane.

On the Library tab, clear the Retrieve additional information from the Internet check box and on the Privacy tab, clear the Update music files by retrieving media info from the Internet check box. Media information about music displayed in your library cannot be removed.
Media information about DVDs played On your computer.

The media information is displayed in several places in the Player, including Now Playing, and in the Info Center View pane.

Media information is stored when you play a DVD. You cannot prevent it. On the Privacy tab, click Clear Caches.
Information about your device This information is stored in a cache in your library. For performance reasons, the Player stores information about the devices that connect to it in a cache. You cannot prevent it. On the Privacy tab, click Clear Caches.

*When you click the Clear History button, you also delete any changes that you have made to the media information for the CD or DVD.
