ABBYY Lingvo makes working with dictionaries easy and enjoyable.
The dictionaries can be joined into subject groups to suit the subject matter of the texts you are translating.
In this chapter you will learn about:
- System dictionaries
System dictionaries are supplied together with ABBYY Lingvo. You can install and remove individual system dictionaries to suit your needs.
- User dictionaries
You can create and edit your own dictionaries.
- Dictionary groups and how to work with them
At each moment, only one dictionary group is active. All system dictionaries have already been divided into groups. You can create your own groups and re-arrange the dictionaries on the Bookshelf in any order that is most convenient for you.
- Enabling a dictionary in a group
Only enabled ABBYY Lingvo dictionaries are used for looking up words and phrases and for full-text searches.
- Working with the Grammar Dictionary
The Grammar Dictionary is a system dictionary which contains essential information about English grammar.
- Using the phrase books
ABBYY Lingvo includes a number of phrase books which provide translations for the most commonly used day-to-day phrases. The phrases are grouped under topics which are displayed in a table of contents.
