About linked files
In Money, you can link a file to a specific transaction. For
example, you might want to link an electronic copy of a canceled
check that you downloaded from your bank to the corresponding
checkbook register entry. You could photograph or scan a receipt,
warranty, or other information and link the file to the transaction
for your purchase.
Money will display a paperclip icon in the follow-up column for
transactions to which a file has been linked.
Notes
- File linking is available only if you are using the Advanced
Account Register. To find out which register you're using, look for
the Essential Register or Advanced
Register label in the upper-right corner of the account
register.
- You can link only one file to each transaction.
- If you have flagged a transaction for follow up, you will see
the follow-up flag and not the linked file flag. However, the link
to the file is still active.
Tips
- To simplify managing your linked files, create a separate
folder (My Money Linked Files, for example) on
your hard disk in the same folder that your Money file is saved in.
When you want to create a link to a file, copy the file to that
folder, and then create the link. When you back up your file, you
can also copy this folder to easily back up your linked files.
- When you back up your Money file, you may also want to copy
your linked files to a removable storage device, such as a CD or
floppy disk, to ensure that you have a backup copy of your files.
Money will not back up these files for you when your Money file is
backed up.
