The 2007 Office Suite Service Pack 2 adds support for extensible file formats. Office Word 2007, Office Excel 2007, and Office PowerPoint 2007 are updated to include a converter interface that allows developers to plug third-party custom file formats into 2007 Office system applications. Developers now can create a converter for files of particular extensions. When this converter is installed on a user's computer, the custom file format behaves as a built-in file format. Users can open and save files in this custom format by clicking the Microsoft Office Button and then clicking Open or Save. Users also can set the custom file format as their default file format. For more information, see Introducing the Open XML Format External File Converter for 2007 Microsoft Office System SP2 (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=150645).
PDF and XPS file types
The 2007 Microsoft Office Suite Service Pack 2 adds functionality that allows users to export and save to the Portable Document Format (PDF) and XML Paper Specification (XPS) file format in 2007 Office system applications. Also, users can send files in PDF and XPS file formats as e-mail attachments in some 2007 Office system applications. Before the release of the 2007 Microsoft Office Suite SP2, PDF or XPS file-saving capability was available only as an add-in; see 2007 Microsoft Office Add-in: Microsoft Save as PDF or XPS (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=111590).
