Custom automated tasks offer a wider range of steps compared to
quick tasks. The order of steps in your custom automated tasks
should correspond to the document processing stages in ABBYY
FineReader. Steps such as image acquisition,
recognition and saving are mandatory, while other
steps such as result checking and page layout
analysis are optional.
When creating a new custom automated task, select one of the
available actions for each step:
- Getting an image
This is always the first step in an automated task. At this
step, ABBYY FineReader retrieves the images to be processed.

Select how you would like to retrieve the image:
- Scan Images
Scanning is performed using current application settings.
- Open Images
Specify the folder from which images will be added into the
application when the task is started.
- Open FineReader Document
Specify the ABBYY FineReader
document from which images will be processed when the task is
started.
Notes:
- If images are added to a document that already contains images
during task execution, only the added images will be processed. If
a new document will be processed during task execution, all of the
images from the document will be processed.
- If the task involves processing an ABBYY FineReader document
that contains both recognized pages and pages on which areas have
been labelled, the recognized pages will not be re-processed, and
the pages with labelled areas will be recognized.
- Page layout analysis
This step is optional. Page layout analysis is used to customize
area templates.
More about this step settings...
- Load Areas Template
Specify the path to the area template file.
- Analyze Layout
After the image is retrieved, ABBYY FineReader will analyze the
layout of the image and label its areas. If you need to manually
draw areas, enable the Draw areas manually option.
- Recognition
At this step, ABBYY FineReader performs OCR on the images.

- Read Document
Recognition is executed using ABBYY FineReader 10's current
settings.
- Checking recognition results
This step is optional. It lets users customize the settings for
recognition result checking.

- Check Results
Select your preferred method for checking recognized text.
- Saving recognition results
At this step, ABBYY FineReader saves the text to a file or sends
it to the selected application. An automated task may include
several saving steps.
